The time has come to empty the Mattress of your hidden wealth! Prices in Mallorca are starting to creep up again. According to the National Statistics property in mainland Spain continues to drop but re-sale prices in the Balearics increased by 1.1% over the second quarter. Tourism too is improving against the national average. Needless to say nobody quite knows where these figures come from but good for the "feel good factor".

Several of my colleagues in other real estate companies are also reporting an upsurge in the level of sales and general traffic. It would be foolish to pretend we are back to "boom time" but fortunately there are clients around and some serious shoppers.

There continues to be a dilemma re prices and dates - if recently listed, the price is probably realistic for today and not so negotiable perhaps as those properties that have been "waiting a while"!! So buyers should check when the current price was determined.

And the pound sterling continues its slow advance against the Euro - or rather more accurately the Euro continues its decline against other currencies. € 1.20 to GBP 1 sterling is the prediction for the autumn - again it depends on which crystal ball you have to hand.

Superyacht Regatta 2009

The annual Superyacht regatta was held over last week-end here in Palma and 18 yachts between 30 and 80 metres took part. A total of 500 owners and crew members spent 4 days based in Port de Mallorca near the Auditorium - a much improved location as very much more accessible to restaurants and shops. The result was a spending per capita of € 370 a day - more than double the amount usually spent by golfers. Which just proves my point "the Big Spenders are still alive and spending!" More than 11 million Euros in total.

Status Quo

Already booked to appear in Madrid, Barcelona, and Bilbao in the Autumn, the fabled group is rumoured to be scheduling a show here in Palma.

A new show at the Casino - the publicity reads " The music of Frank Sinatra is synonymous worldwide with casino entertainment and what we've done with 'come Fly With Me' is to bring the quality of Broadway to the island of Mallorca, creating a 'must see' show. Never before has such jaw dropping dance and acrobatic routines been combined with the quality music from the King of Swing."

A plane is on its way to Melbourne when ex Big Brother contestant, Chantelle, gets out of her seat in Economy Class and moves to the First Class section and sits down.

The Flight attendant watches her do this and asks to see her ticket.

She then tells Chantelle that she will have to return to her Economy seat.

Chantelle replies, "I'm blonde, I'm beautiful, I'm a celebrity, I'm going to Melbourne and I'm staying right here!"

The flight attendant goes into the cockpit and tells the pilot and co-pilot that there is some blonde bimbo sitting in First Class who belongs in Economy and won't move back to her seat.

The co-pilot goes back to the passenger and tries to explain that, because she only paid for Economy, she is only entitled to an Economy seat and she will have to return to her original seat.

She replies, "I'm blonde, I'm beautiful, I'm a celebrity, I'm going to Melbourne and I'm staying right here!"

Exasperated, the co-pilot tells the pilot that it was no use and he probably should have the police waiting when they land to arrest the woman, who won't listen to reason.

"You say she's blonde", says the Pilot. "I'll handle this. I'm married to a blonde, so I can speak blonde!"

The pilot goes back to the woman, whispers in her ear, and she says, "Oh I'm sorry - I'm glad you told me", gets up and moves back to her seat in Economy.

The flight attendant and co-pilot are amazed and asked him what he said to make her move without any fuss.

The pilot replied, 'I told her First Class isn't going to Melbourne.
