I am pleased to share with you below some of my top recommendations in Mallorca, from a night out and dining options to hotels, markets, beaches and more. This is merely a snapshot of the diverse array Mallorca has to offer, and I would be delighted to have the opportunity to assist you in finding your dream home and be able to personally share with you to all my special places and spaces on this beautiful Island of Mallorca that I call home.
Since arriving in Mallorca 18 years ago it has been interesting to see how the restaurant scene has evolved. The traditional and quite plain Mallorcan countryside fare has been transformed into uber creative gastronomic offerings. Add to this every international nuance, flavour and style and you have a macrocosm in the microcosm that is Mallorca, reflecting nearly every corner of the globe. The veggie scene which had been almost non-existent has been expanding rapidly, with more and more high-quality options to suit all tastes, budgets and desires.
The cosmopolitan City of Palma, the capital of Mallorca offers the most diverse range of options and vibrant dining experiences, but let's start at the top and then outline some of my favourites.
For such a relatively small island Mallorca now has eight Michelin Star Restaurants which include the following:
Zaranda with 2 Michelin stars by chef Fernando Pérez Arellano's situated in the 5 star Castell Son Claret Hotel, Capdellà. All others have 1 star. +34 971 138 627 www.zaranda.es
Álvaro Salazar was awarded his first Michelin star at Argos in Puerto Pollensa, and went on to receive a second star in 2019 for his gastronomy at VORO in Canyamel, the fine-dining restaurant at Park Hyatt Mallorca. +34 646 896 826 vorobyparkhyattmallorca.com
Adrián Quetglas, Palma - 1 star. Fine food in the heart of Palma, gaining a reputation for great value prices, particularly lunchtime.
Simply Fosh by Marc Fosh, Palma - 1 star. The first British chef in Spain to be recognised with a Michelin star at the rural Reads Hotel in Santa Maria. He was awarded a Michelin star for his own restaurant in 2015. www.marcfosh.com
Restaurant Jardín in Puerto Alcúdia - Macarena (Maca) de Castro became the first female chef in Mallorca to awarded a Michelin Star in 2012. She has maintained it ever since. Initially studying Fine Arts, Macarena's artistic eye combines with her fine culinary skills to produce both art for the eye and tantalising mix of Spanish Mediterranean creative twists for the tongue. www.macadecastro.com
Andreu Genestra Restaurant, Capdepera - 1 star. Offering wonderful views of the castle from the terrace, Andreu grows much of his produce in the grounds of the Hotel Predì Son Jaumell in which his restaurant is situated. www.hotelsonjaumell.com
Es Fum, with José Miguel Navarro, St Regis Mardavall - 1 star. Known for its tasting menu, this restaurant can feel rather stuffy, and the most extensive of the tasting menus rather long and elongated. However the setting is beautiful, and although long winded tasting menus are not my thing, it is for many. www.restaurant-esfum.com
Es Racó d'es Teix, Deia - 1 star. Chef Josef Sauerschell gained his first Michelin star at the luxury Belmond La Residencia Hotel in Deia. In 1999 it was then taken away but regained a star in 2002 with his own restaurant. www.esracodesteix.es

Palma is a haven for shops and boutiques. It's great to have a wonder around to see the diverse array of clothing shops. Try the Jaime III first from the top end (Paseo Mallorca) where you will come across the main department store El Corte Ingles where they have a wide array of everything you can imagine. Continue walking down towards the Paseo del Borne. Once you have had a look around go up into the back street near McDonalds, and walk around the pedestrianized cobbled streets through Plaza de Frederic Chopin, and make your way up the steps towards Plaza Cort and then Plaza Major. You could shop for hours wandering the beautiful cobbled streets of Palma for many hours.
The Santa Catalina district offers a wonderful selection of more Bohemian style shops, as well as a wide array of restaurants and bars encircling Santa Catalina Market.
Other shopping areas to consider are:
Fan Shopping Centre - an open-air shopping center close to the airport. https://www.fanmallorca.com/en/
Mallorca Fashion Outlet - an open-air outlet shopping center with plenty of outdoor dining and cafes. As well as cinemas and an indoor cart racing circuit. Fun for all the family. https://mallorcafashionoutlet.com/en/
Puerto Portals - the very chic and fashionable marina has a wide array of upmarket boutiques and restaurants to choose from, although pretty pricey!!
Port Adriano - This recently upgraded Philip Stark marina development has been elegantly styled and also offers a wide array of chic boutiques and restaurants.
Puerto Andratx - The Port of Andratx is well worth a visit for a wide array of boutiques and specialist shops dotted around the Port and the back streets. Previously a strongly German region the area has benefitted from their discerning tastes and styles to bring an upmarket flavour to the town.
